Experience something unexpected.

Edmond Town Hall is a historic entertainment venue in Newtown, CT. Built in 1931, it houses a 500-seat theatre that’s home to music, film, comedy, weddings, and community gatherings.

The Challenge
Over the years, Edmond Town Hall has become known as the local, “affordable cinema.” The identity had aged — The mark didn't reflect the energy on stage. Rental and ticketing paths were buried on the website. In other words, audiences weren’t seeing everything this landmark had to offer.

Our Approach
We needed to dramatically shift every established perception about Edmond Town Hall. We worked with new Exectutive Director, Gary Lindemann, to design a disruptive brand based on a breakthrough proposition: Experience something unexpected. Then, we brought it to life with a new website that showcased Edmond Town Hall as a vibrant entertainment destination. It’s still a beloved local theatre. With the new brand, though, it actually sings.

Lettering that Moves
Edmond Town Hall needed a logo that would speak to the amazing musical and theatrical performances that graced its stage. The hand-drawn letters are inspired by musical notes — moving forward and upwards, just like Edmond Town Hall’s brand.

A brand that engages.

We reimagined edmondtownhall.org around the three things patrons actually visit for: events, rentals, and stories behind the stage. This user-first approach increased site traffic, kept visitors on the site longer, and immediately resulted in more ticket sales.

Upstage your Newtown neighbors.

For this social fundraising concept, Edmond Town Hall asked followers to raise awareness of the arts by providing creative name options for their main stage. Participants could use the hashtag #UpStageNetown on Facebook and Instagram to share their unique idea, then challenge their friends and neighbors to come up with a better name.

User Generated Content
The objective of this campaign is to generate authentic User Generated Content. Updating their social media channels on a consistent basis with fresh content helped to keep the program relevant. Participants were also encouraged to make a tax-deductible donation to support the arts at Edmond Town Hall through a stand-alone micro site.

Prizes were randomly awarded each month — everything from tickets to live shows and events, to exclusive backstage passes.

Unexpected brand activations.

The art of combining the Edmond Town Hall brand logo, colors, patterns, borders, and photography is similar to creating a musical composition — there’s always rhythm and balance. But, the brand also calls for an element of unexpected surprise. It should feel good and make you want to move. Design examples are conintuously added to the style guide to ensure the brand is constantly in motion.

If you think your brand should move people, reach out. We’d love to design something unexpected and timless for your organization.
